The Train the Trainer model is recognised as crucial to developing the multi-layered skill set demanded of trainers in this constantly evolving field. Our training courses are aimed at practicing trainers including supervisors, managers, coordinators and freelance trainers who wish to develop advanced training skills and confidence in delivering programmes to others. In taking this course, learners will gain a deep understanding of the methodologies, theories, processes and practical situations involved in the delivery of successful adult training sessions. Train the Trainer Course Overview

The following modules are completed:

Training Delivery and Evaluation (6N3326)

By the end of this training module learners will:

  • Be familiar with concepts and theories underlying the delivery and evaluation of training interventions
  • Examine the key areas impacting on the effectiveness of a training session, such as: the learning environment, the trainer’s role, learning methodologies and the group dynamics of participants
  • Understand the importance of relevant issues including equality, diversity and disability, in the context of current legislation with regard to training provision
  • Learn to formulate appropriate training content and materials using a range of training aids
  • Gain a knowledge of evaluation tools, techniques and approaches for a training session to determine whether or not training needs were met and objectives fulfilled
  • Develop effective skills in providing constructive feedback to participants in relation to training intervention
  • Devise a complete training evaluation process to include the identification of key stakeholders, feedback from the trainee, challenges within the process, and the methodology of the evaluation
  • Learn to create a report on a training and development evaluation to include the identification of areas of success and opportunities for improvement

Training Needs Identification & Design (6N3325)
By the end of this training module learners will:

  • Study the internal and external environmental factors influencing training and development requirements
  • Differentiate between the concepts of learning, training, development and education
  • Examine the impact of organisation strategy, policy, vision and mission on training and development, and learn how to fit these to the purposes of training and development in different settings
  • Become familiar with the benefits of training needs analysis at an organisational and or individual level
  • Assess a range of approaches and techniques required to conduct a training needs analysis
  • Understand the different stages in conducting a training needs analysis
  • Assess a range of Instructional System Design (ISD) models
  • Apply a comprehensive range of specialised skills and tools in identifying the barriers to training and attitudes to training in an organisation
  • Devise a training plan based on prioritised training needs to include a cost benefit analysis
  • Develop appropriate training content and materials using a range of learning aids to include web based facilities, software, flipcharts and handouts
  • Conduct a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) to identify training and development needs for an organisation and or individual
  • Identify TNA outcomes in terms of gaps in knowledge, skills and attitudes.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion of this course learners will:

  • Understand a variety of educational theories and concepts related to training
  • Compare and contrast different concepts of training, teaching and facilitation, and successfully apply these to workplace scenarios
  • Deal with complex issues such as interrupting, discrimination, group process dynamics and managing unconscious dynamics
  • Conduct advanced session planning for various training situations
  • Understand what motivates an adult learner and learn how to cultivate talent
  • Plan, undertake and evaluate a training needs analysis
  • Set clear and achievable objectives for a training course
  • Understand the logic behind, and be able to confidently demonstrate, the communication skills needed to deliver an effective training programme
  • Evaluate a training session through written and oral feedback and apply this to your practice
  • Understand current legislation and its influence on training and delivery
